Explore the Initial District Schools in Southwest Kiowa County & Con. 8

School districts, usually about 3 miles square but shaped to fit the local topography, began to be organized immediately after the August 1901 opening of the land to white settlement. By end of the 1902-03 school year, 106 districts had been organized. Between 1903 and 1907, four more were organized bringing the total to 110.

By 1911, eight rural school districts were merged into the Consolidated Dist. No. 8 school, and the first building was built.

Below, you can explore the history, images and maps of both the merged districts that became Con. 8, and the Consolidated Dist. No. 8 school.
