Notes of Interest
Enrollment in September is reported as 190, a few less than that of last year. 51 are in high school and although the article says 129 in grades, it would have to be 139 to produce the stated total.
Student Review 9/6/1940 says the new “south” teacherage with two rooms was complete and occupied by Mrs. Huffman, and Mrs. Winters. It is also reported that all eight teachers now live in the three teacherages whereas previously one or two had to find accommodations in the community. My memory is that Mr. and Mrs. Woods had the two-room “north” teacherage. If so, the large teacherage accommodated Mr. and Mrs. DeWees with two children, and must have had two apartments, one used by Mr. and Mrs. Ethridge and another occupied by Mr. Ayres.
In January, “Slim” Gilmore left the community to enter the Implement business in Altus. He made his last run with #1 bus and Mark McFarland substituted for him until his permanent replacement Allen Newton was hired in February.
There is much more information from the Student Review not entered yet.
