Notes of Interest
This was the first year for Mr. and Mrs. DeWees. According to a 1937 Student Review editorial, the high school had only been approved by the State for 8 or nine credits when he arrived. I think that was the number for the previous year, and more was possible this year. I think 16 were already required for a diploma. The major accreditation barrier was sufficient teachers qualified in the high school subjects. I understand that the three students above did get 12-year certificates. It probably means that they were able to complete 16 units of work, but it was not all accredited, and thus an examination was required for an award of a diploma.
High School Graduates
Oscar J. Terry (Son of Louis Terry), Melba Haynie, Oscar Terry (son of John Terry and cousin to Oscar J.)
Probably a twelve-grade certificate instead of a diploma awarded this year.
